The clause that states nurturing a patriotic attitude among the people as a goal of education stirred up public debate. While some people support the idea as natural for a nation, others are concerned it will propagate nationalism in classrooms, again opening the door to powerful persuasion of children.

Are there any other revisions?　他に改正点は無いのか？

The bill to revise the law also emphasizes the importance of nurturing morality and discipline. For example, it states that parents or guardians are responsible for their children's education and making them acquire good habits and become independent. It also requires the education ministry to draw up a five-year plan that is likely to include numerical goals to improve the quality of education. The plan will be reported to the Diet and publicized. Local governments will also have to tailor a plan to meet local demands.
